Celebrating the life of

Maria E. Green

Passed away on July 04, 2024

Maria E. Green

Maria Elena Rodriguez Green, 66, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 4, 2024, surrounded by her family.  She was born August 22, 1957, in Havana, Cuba to the late Wilfredo and Mercedes Rodriguez.  Maria grew up in Miami, Florida, where she attended Academy of the Assumption with many of her most cherished lifelong friends.  After meeting the love of her life, Steve, Maria moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, where she graduated from Meredith College with a bachelor’s degree in art education.  Following her passion for fashion, Maria went to work for the Cato Corporation in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she began a 34-year career as a Senior Buyer.  During her distinguished career, Maria made countless trips to New York City, where she became a force to be reckoned with in the fashion industry.  After her retirement, Maria and her husband, Steve, moved to Savannah, Georgia to live close to her daughter, son-in-law, and her three beautiful granddaughters.

Maria is survived by her husband of 43 years, Steve Green, daughter and son-in-law, Madison and Alex Salzillo, three granddaughters, Silia, Sadie, and Sarah, and her brother, Willie Rodriguez.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Tybee Island, Georgia.

A Celebration of Life will follow the service at the American Legion, located at 10 Veterans Drive, Tybee Island, Georgia.

Maria held many causes close to her heart, and in lieu of flowers, remembrances in her memory may be made to her favorite charitable organization, P.A.C.K. (People of Action Caring for Kids), or to the Nancy B. Lewis Cancer Center, in appreciation of the excellent care that she received from all of the physicians and staff.

María Elena was a beautiful loving caring person. Everyone that had the immense privilege to have met her will never forget her smile and always positive attitude. Her love for her family was always there, above and beyond. Starting with her parents, Silia and Wilfredo and her brother Willy. Then her loving husband Steve and her beautiful daughter Madison. Her three granddaughters overwhelmed her heart with love and joy. May she rest in peace in the Kingdom of Heaven with her parents. For ever in my heart my dear cousin!!!!

Willy, my brother. I love you. Through our lifelong friendship I had the privilege to know and befriend your beautiful sister, Maria. Your sibling bond and love for each other was inspirational and such a joy to witness. My heart is with you and your family. With you, we will celebrate her and her life and hold you close to our hearts.

I know everyone understands how much Maria was loved- especially by her brother Willie. As one of his best friends, I knew Maria and her beautiful family through him over the past 30 years. Maria, Steve, and Madison have always been welcoming and gracious with their time and love for anyone close to them. I always admired Maria’s professional career, work ethic, and love for her family and I know she will be missed so much. Love and peace to each of you.

Steve, Madison and Alex, I truly have no words. Maria was an amazing person who I felt a bond with anytime I saw her, whether it was out at the store or events at the Ramirez’s. I’m terribly sad as she had so much life and energy. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you that you may find comfort and healing during this time. All of our blessings and heartfelt sympathy sincerely, Laura, Morgan and Madison Bowden

Steve, Madison, Alex and family, Greg and I are so very sad to read about your beautiful Maria. We were not aware that she had been ill, so we were very shocked to learn of her passing. We made an instant connection right when we met her, and enjoyed the times we were around her precious personality, and the love she showed her wonderful family. May God give you all strength during this very hard time, and all of the days without her. We love you all, God Bless you. Kaye and Greg

Maria Green was loved by so many. She always brightened your day when you were with her. It is always fun when Naria was around. When Marianne introduced me to Maria and Steve I found a great friend in both. We will all miss her and I’m sure she and Marianne are having a big Cuban celebration RIP MY FRIEND

Maria will always be the sister I never had. We shared our dreams, hopes, and secrets. The void is difficult to explain. She was amazing, loving, kind, and an abundance of only good. She will never be replaced. My love goes out to Steve, Madison and Willie. She so loved them all and the “girls” she will be waiting for #4. I feel so blessed to have had her in my life. In my head I call her all the time and share my thoughts, she so understood and loved unconditionally. I hope to see you on the other side. Te quiero mucho mucho Annie
